BIO
Julia Ramsey is a knitwear designer and fiber artist. Rich in texture and emotional dimension, Julia’s fabrics drape the body connecting figure with fiber. Her custom knitwear collections emphasize handwork, craftsmanship, appreciation for raw materials and for the techniques that transform them. Each piece serves as a reminder—of the deep connection we all share with Mother Nature, her creatures, and her creative forces. Julia aims to restore this ‘natural memory’ in the bodies, minds, and spirits of all those who view and wear her work.
Julia is passionate about promoting and supporting small-scale, locally based organic farms and fiber producers. She is also committed to educating the next generation in fiber arts, handwork and other mindfulness based practices.
A portion of all collection sales are donated to MindfulSchools, a non-profit organization offering professional training to support mindfulness in education.
Julia has designed knitwear for clients such as Anthropologie, Todd & Duncan, Patagonia, Neiman Marcus, Holt Renfrew, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Kinross Cashmere. Her work has been exhibited internationally; and has been featured in fashion editorial publications including New York Times Style, I-D, Dazed & Confused, KnitWear Magazine, Wild Fibers and The Knot.
Julia currently lives and works in Reading, Pennsylvania, USA.
PROCESS
"I dream with my hands, processing the human psyche through my work. I embrace a natural rhythm and flow in making, where the final product is not premeditated. The process is a conversation, a story, a creative collaboration between the maker, the body, the fiber, the stitch; orchestrated by grace, intuition, presence."
